African Safari Checklist

Your Essential African Safari Checklist

Preparing your African hunting safari checklist is pretty simple. A few fundamentals that you would take on any trip or holiday and practical clothing that is suited for the time of year and climate you are traveling to.

We have given you a safari packing guide to work through to ensure that you arrive with everything you need as well as a brief pre-departure checklist and a post-hunt list too.

Pre-Departure Safari Checklist

  • Valid Passport – A valid passport is obligatory and be aware of the expiry date. Every country is a little different but for Zimbabwe, you will need and at least threelank visa pages for entry and exit stamps. Passports need to be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into the country.) It is also a good idea to photocopy the photo page and the entry stamp page of your passport in case of loss or accident. Keep these photocopies separate to your original documentation.
  • Extra ID photo of yourself.
  • Airline ticket.
  • Correct weapon documentation.
  • Inoculations (if required).
  • Travel Insurance.
  • Enough cash for a visa at the point of entry (US$55) gifts, tip, etc. Most cards do work although at times the system can be unreliable and card transactions are not always available in certain shops.

Safari Packing Tips

Safari Packing TipsPlease pack simply and travel light.

Bring lightweight cargo pants and a short-sleeved shirt for day wear and long-sleeved shirts for warmth in the evenings as well as keeping the mosquitoes at bay.

If prone to sunburn, wear light long sleeved cotton shirts in the sun. The African sun is harsh and you can burn very quickly and severely if not careful.

Pack a fleece jacket or sweater as well as a windbreaker for sitting in the back of the safari vehicle. It could be chilly when leaving in the morning and returning in the evening while the day will be very hot. The hunting areas can have extreme day and night temperatures.

Sturdy hunting boots and thick socks are advisable. Casual slip-on’s for around the camp.
